I have been trying to figure out a way to get ANY advice possible to deal with my situation. I worked for Bethlehem Lutheran Preschool and I absolutely loved everything about that school... EXCEPT the director!
I could fill a book with the mean and hurtful things that the director has said and done. But instead of just complaining about an unhappy woman, I was hoping that I would get some advice by voicing my concerns here. To get straight to the point, I was taken out of my classroom (I was the 2 yr old teacher) and told that I was going to be put on "sub-status;" which pretty much means don't come to work unless we call you.
I have dealt with chronic migraines since I was 12 yrs old. As a result, it is very important (as it is for everybody) that I have health insurance. Since my first day at work, Lisa (the director) had been promising me health insurance, but she always came up with an excuse or reason for me not to get it.
Her first excuse was that I needed to be working full time. Well, yea. I understand that and it's totally reasonable. However... Lisa put me to part time and fridays off (with my headaches I wasn't sure if I could handle a full schedule) when I was REALLY working 5 days a week, full time and even overtime! I was told that I would be a floater and just 2 weeks after I started I was teaching in the 2 yr old classroom.
I had not yet received my basic CORE units that are required to work with the children. After a couple months of team-teaching with the other toddler teacher (who is also the director's daughter) I was given the class and was working with up to 15 toddlers everyday, by myself, full-time (remember I'm supposed to be on part-time).
Her next excuse for not giving me the health insurance I needed was because I didn't have all my units. So the church that the school is connected to was nice enough to pay for me to take my last required ECE class. Once I passed the class, Lisa started cutting my hours.
Her excuse then, to not insure me, was that I didn't have enough hours. I needed 25 hours in order to qualify. So I kept track of my hours and confronted her with the paperwork that said that I do work 25 a week. A month or so later she hands me the insurance paperwork to fill out.
ONE WEEK LATER!!! She cuts my hours AGAIN! So I couldn't apply.By the beginning of December of last year she decided to put me on sub-status because I was not reliable. I was sick a lot and missed quite a few days. I tried to argue that if I had insurance, I would get the care I needed to be healthy enough to work without missing so many days.
So we ended up in a vicious circle that won't get resolved because she refuses to give me the help that I need, that I deserve, and that she promised me!
Oh FYI: She believes the way to resolve this entire issue is for me to get married! I don't feel it's right for her to tell me to get married in order to get the health insurance that she was REQUIRED to give me!
