Sylvan Learning Center
False advertising, inaccurate assessment tests, overpriced and doesn't work

Sylvan learning center will have cost me $285/hr and they did not live up to their guarantee of improvement but became an ongoing financial problem 4 years later.

In my 8 year old son was already having problems
with school. As early as kindergarten he ran out of the classroom. On a daily basis if he got to school he was crying and kicking. Our son has epilepsy and took medication for seizures and behavior. When he saw the Sylvan commercial on a kid's network, he pleaded with
his unemployed separated mother to let him go& at last my son wanted to learn. On 4/29/04 he took his assessment tests and I was reassured Sylvan could teach him.

On 5/3/04 he went happily to the first session after which it was difficult to get him there BUT
I had signed a contract, not only with Sylvan but also I had taken out a loan from Sallie Mae. My son unhappily attended 13 classes (ending completely 6/9/04), always with other students. These 13 classes cost a total of $1625 but this is 4 year later and I am still paying Sallie Mae monthly&originally $62/mo then $32.50/mo.By the time I'm finished I will have given $3700 for the 13 classes.in the last 4 years it has been determined that my son has learning disabilities& Sylvan's tests did not discover these difficulties&I paid $300 cash for assessment fees. I have very little money and have been obligated to pay Sallie Mae monthly. When I am late they charge a late fee and constantly call my cosigner whose help I pleaded for. All this happened because I tried to be a good mother. I followed the advice of Sylvan Learning Center and wanted to do the right thing for my son. I saw NO improvement in my son's learning, only the added anxiety and frustration of trying to get him another place he did not want to go and now years later the phone calls, letters, emails from Sallie Mae asking for their Money. I am sick and tired.in total, I will have paid $285/hour for tutorials.
