And Roommateaccess.com MA & NY, NY ripoff deception, consumer fraud ripoff...
Roommateaccess.com advertised on their site that I would be able to contact potential roommates directly by email or phone if I paid the $39.99 membership fee for a 3 mo. Membership. Since there are only a few credible looking places online to search for a roommate I tried this out. If I did not pay then I or the others who listed themselves on the site would not have any information to contact anyone since you have to pay the fee first in order to get access to their information.
By the way, this is a great way to make free money online. I mean, it's basically like setting up a message board and people give their contact info. To you and they turn around and sell it. There is no cost for the company to incur to do this except for maintaining the site.
But, what they did was extremely deceptive and I compare this to basically stealing people's money. Only after a few day suddenly I was not able to access potential roommates contact information. They had a "contact" button with a message box that would be sent to them. But, get this, the other person would have to pay the membership to access the message.
The EXTREMELY DECEPTIVE part of this was that they specifically stated on the site that I would obtain direct contact information if I paid their $39.99 fee. I even received email confirmation that I would get this. They even marketed on the site to "TAKE CONTROL" and contact them first. So, now I couldn't get ANYTHING for the $39.99 I paid them. For $39.99 I get the POSSIBILITY that the other person will then pay $39.99 and access their messages to view mine. WHAT ANY EASY WAY FOR THEM TO TAKE PEOPLE'S MONEY AND AN EASY WAY TO LOSE MINE!
Here is the email confirmation they sent me once i joined. I'm also disputing this charge with my credit card company, hopefully they will also realize that i was scammed.
"Thank you for becoming a full service member of RoommateAccess.com and taking charge of your roommate search! You will now receive the email address and/or telephone number of your potential roommate matches."
Payment of $39.99 confirmed.
Your 3 month membership is up and running."
There it is, plainly emailed to me what I would be receiving for my money. I emailed them to refund my money. Of course, since they're thieves that wasn't going to happen.
Hopefully, I will get my money back with my dispute.
