I received a credit card from American Credit Educators four years ago. I was under the presumption it was a normal credit card, but I immediately noticed a fee of around $100 already on the account for materials. After calling and having disputed the purchase of these materials, I was told they were part of the package for signing up for the credit card (of which I am not aware of ever having done). Therefore, I asked to have this card cancelled and these charges dismissed. I was told this was done per my request.
I recently found that this has been left active and is still accuring on my credit report.
This is now four years later, and I called to explain I had already cancelled this card, had no materials and did not owe any money.
They told me they could not verify that, as it was not listed that I had called to cancel, etc.
They asked me to "settle" for $150 or dispute, which, however, would be regarded as "unfavorable" by the legal department, since I would need to prove that I had not received or had returned the materials and had cancelled the credit card, which was clearly impossible to do.
This is based on the fact that anything that occurs must be reported on your account. If any information is ill-reported, then the case becomes invalid, and the account holder must pay all fees.
The "law" of the legal department bases its facts on what it contains in its computer, which can and ARE manipulated.
I do not owe this company anything and will NOT "settle, " as this is a complete injustice and is manipulative blackmail.
I feel completely used and my credit has been destroyed from this problem. American Credit Educators is a total rip-off scam!
