I was coxed into going to DeVry University by an enrollment representative because of the things they promised. When I first started they claimed to be a school that was of convenience to the working adult. Not only did they say they offered online classed but they said they offered night classes as well for those that worked during the day. What they didn't say is that they didn't offer night classes for ALL the courses required to graduate. Then as you got further into your major those on campus classes turned into nothing but online classes. Even MATH classes were turned into online classes where you had to learn from a computer program! Needless to say I had to re-take that class 3 times because I really had minimal help.
Another gripe being that it's not bad enough that these are tri-mester but that they then divide each tri-mester into sessions so for every semester, you then split that into two "sessions" A & B, so you're now taking a full load on an 8 week course reading 4 chapters in a WEEK on top of posting online and doing homework making it virtually impossible to stay on top of things.
Well needless to say now that I am a junior I realized that I couldn't afford to keep going to this school at $6-7,000/per semester (mind you there are 3 in this full-year round college). As well as going through the stress (and trust me there was ALOT) of trying to stay on top of things. Oh and did I mention the ever changing graduation requirements as well as over-priced credit hours that never stop rising!
So I go to an in-state college today to transfer my credit hours and guess what NOT ONE OF THEM will transfer over. Reason being that they are not an accredited college. When I said that they had TOLD me that they were in an accredited college I was told that they were not accredited with the major accreditated institutes that almost everyone else! I was furious! Especially since DeVry had led me to believe that I could always transfer somewhere else and that I could transfer to other universities and state colleges.
And for anyone to try to tell me that "I just need to put the work in.." well guess what. I put in 4 years of my life (I went part-time up until last year), $46,000 later had a decent GPA and TRUST ME I put the work in! I get NOTHING. Not even my basic gen ed credits will transfer. I REFUSE to go back and put the in the remaining year that I have in so I can pay another $18,000.
