Another Rip-off: No Idea How They Got My Credit Card Number!

I recently found a few random charges to my credit card from this AP9*YOURSAVINGSCLUB-V and AP9*PRIVACYMATTERS12-V. The first I was charged $1, the second I was charged $1 and $29.95. I "googled" these names from my account, and I came to hundreds of others with the same problem. I had never given them my card number. Only a name and fake address.

When I called my bank to report fraud, they only told me to first talk to someone from the actual place taking the charges. They even gave me the numbers of the place: I didn't even have to tell him which charges were the fraud, he knew exactly which ones they were, implying that I was not the first person he had talked to with this same problem... They also gave me their number to call back if the "fraud" place did not comply.

HERE ARE THE NUMBERS TO CALL for the "AP9 Privacy Matters 123": 1-877-993-6264. And for the "AP9 Your Savings Club": 1-877-820-7107. This one does not work, however, without a member number or phone number, and my phone number for some reason did not work.

I called the first number that was for the greater charges and eventually talked to someone live. I explained that I had NOT signed up for anything and that I wanted a full refund and to have all my information completely discarded. I told the woman that what I had done was when I was at their website, I purposely started entering my name and a fake address to see if it was going to eventually ask for a credit card number, otherwise I would have been interested. When it did ask for my credit card information, however, I immediately closed the page and did NOT give my credit card information.

When I explained this to the woman, she said it was impossible and that there was no way for them to get my card number. I told her that it IS possible for the insecurity of the internet to do such things, though she kept denying it. I finally told her to go to consumer complaintss.com and to search the "AP9*PRIVACYMATTERS12-V" and that she would see with her own eyes this has happened to hundreds. Then I told her I would wait as she did it. She kept saying it was impossible, but when I told her this she gave in and said that she would completely refund the charges and cancel my "membership".

SO the best thing was to tell her I would wait as she went to the website and saw it for herself. It also helped to be solid and stand my ground. She didn't want to have to deal with me if I wasn't going to give up.

For the other number I was not able to get through to anyone, so I emailed them (today) stating what I had to the woman, and told them I need to talk to a person live and that I would be checking up on it looking for my refund.
