My story is exactly the same as others I have read here. Last summer a bright and gregarious young man came to my door selling magazine subscriptions. He was charming so he gained entry to my home. I listened while he explained to me that he was doing this so he could win a trip and to hopefully improve his life. He went on to say that he had had a hard life and was trying to make something of himself. I felt sorry for him and was glad to help him out by ordering a magazine. I picked House and Garden and wrote a check for $42.00. Months have now gone by and I am still waiting for a magazine that will never come. To be truthful, I had more or less forgotten about the magazine and would think about it from time to time and wonder about it. Yesterday I was going through some receipts and found the one I got the day I ordered the magazine. I figured it was time to check into the situation and so I called the number on the receipt. It wasn't in service any longer. So I started doing some digging and found this website and read some other complaints. I found a current number for the company and called it today. I reached a very polite young woman who was very upset to hear my tale. She assured me that it was all a big mistake and that they had recently made some changes in the company since they were hearing this story from many others about magazines that have not been received. I was told my refund check will be coming in 4-5 weeks and that she is putting my name at the top of the list since it has been so long since I ordered it. When she didn't ask me for proof of the payment I made before I could be reimbursed I asked her why. She said that she believed my story and was sure I wasn't trying to cheat the company. I almost laughed because what kind of business will send refunds to customers based upon one phone call saying the money was paid? I called the bank that cashed my check in Huntsville, AL, SouthBank, and the man I spoke to about this told me that I wasn't the first person to call and report this. He went on to further say that he was sorry but could not help me in any way. What a surprise! I spent today contacting the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs and the Federal Trade Commission. The BBB out of Alabama told me I was one of over 70 people who have called about this company cheating people out of money. They have sent letters to this business and tried calling, but they constantly change their number. I filed a report with the BBB and also with my state's Consumer Affairs office. The thing people need to realize is that at least the BBB has a bark but no bite (their words) and so there isn't much they can do. When I called the Federal Trade Commission to file my report she told me that my report was the first one she had heard and that there needs to be a pattern of complaints before any serious action can be taken. So people need to call the FTC and file a complaint so that something can be done about this. Call your local police station and report it... Call the Huntsville police department and report it. People need to be aware that there is another man who has joined this company besides Howard Brock and Dave Fussell. I was given the name Wesley Eubanks as well. We need to stop this business from cheating anyone else.
