My truck was recently picked up by Aames Associates. Unfortunately my truck was reposessed but I was able to reinstate my loan within the Califonia redemption period.
After getting the money together to redeem my vehicle, I was totally shocked to find that my $3500 stereo system was taken by the repo company. I have proof that it was in there; 1. I went out there at 2am in the morning when they hooked up my truck and handed them the key as asked with a witness, 2. My 17 yr old daughter who is waiting to inherit the truck somehow, took a picture of the dash board as a background on her cell phone the same day the truck was reposessed showing my system in tact. 3. I have a receipt showing the amount and when I paid for the system.
I have filed a complaint with the finance company, the company that hired the asset recovery company, the agent that I picked the vehicle up from and the police department. The company that picked up the car did not do an inventory report so supposedly it is their word against mine, even thought their screw driver is still in my truck and I have proof the stereo system was in there. No body wants to admit the stereo was there and I have been told to turn it into my insurance company. I'm not even sure the stereo is covered and even if it is, why should I have to pay the $500 deductible. I should be able to obtain my vehicle the same way they picked it up.
Anyways after talking to several people that have been in the same situation as I have as well as people that know people that work for these companies, this is a pretty common occurance. It is bad enough to have to go through the bad times but to have more taken away from you needlessly is horrible. With the economy the way it is I am sure the situation is only getting worse. I have seen 3 cars in my neighborhood be driven away on tow trucks this month alone, wether they were reposessed or not, I hope they do not have to go through the same ordeal I am going through.
Aames Associates is the company that picked up my truck. Their number is 818-249-8673. I have spoke to a Mr King that swears he does not have any theives and will look into it. (I'm not holding my breath).
I can live without the stereo but to me it is just the principle of it. Anybody that has had the same situation, please respond. I have written stories to channel 3,5, 7, and 9 news. (not sure that it will do any good) but repo companies need to be held responsible.
