My story is similar as everyone elses. Back in mid I wanted financial counseling and Smith & Merritt promised that for 2 years I would be coached back to financial stability and beyond. The training I would receive would quickly earn back that $9,995 fee, plus they would negotiate better credit card interest rates, etc, etc.
After about a month in the program, I decided to quit and ask for a refund. I didnt receive a response from them for about 2 months in which during that time I continuously emailed them, even threatening to sue. Finally, the answered me and denied my request to quit and receive a refund. They said I could restart the coaching/counseling program. The coach needed to wait until after tax time in 2007. So, after tax time in 2007 I tried to contact my coach, but no answer. I tried contacting other people from the company, but no answer. I found the website was blank, phone numbers disconnected and emails unanswered.
I have learned that College Partnership acquired Smith & Merritt and they are now in Bankruptcy Court in Utah. Here is the information:
United States Bankruptcy Court District of Utah
350 S Main #301
Salt Lake City UT 84101
Case number: 07-23468
Also, I am disputing the charges on my credit card as services not rendered as I only received 1 month of training for a 2 year program.
Any other help would be appreciated.
Thanks
