Brian Bolger tried to scam us here in the UK, into giving him a $140,000 a year sales job with stock options, with verly elaborately enginnered scam, claiming he was a senior business development / sales manager or director at Google in the Santa Monica office in California, and had been their for 4-5 years.
But despite Brian Bolger's elaborate and detailed claims on his CV, his Linked in profile http://www.linkedin.com/pub/4/668/317, and his letters, emails and interviews, it turns out he never worked there. The references on his linked in profile we also believed to be fake, as are his educational references.
The scary thing is, Brian Bolger even had business cards from Google with Snr Business Development Manager on them, a phone number that went to a voicemail purporting him to be the same (310 745 6490, so watch out for that if it shows up again), and seemed to know his way round the company and everything.
In hindsight he talked a really good talk, claimed to have had 80,000 share options that he cashed in at the Google IPO, everything. The stories he had we're endless. Even elaborate running commentaries as he was handing in his notice, of working with his team of salespeople, hiring and firing stories, even details of all the directors meeting he was having as a result of his resignation.in hindsight its quite alarming how engineered the whole thing was. It may not be the first time he has used it, or intends to use it, so watch out anyone that is talking Brian Bolger, or interviewing a guy that sounds like he may be the same.
At the end of the day though, the phone number on his biz cards weren't recognised by the Google operators in Santa Monica or Mountain view, he didnt have a Google email address, just [email protected] which was odd considering he'd been there 5 years. The work address was also few doors out too.
Then to add to the suspicion, when we did our check ups, none of the Google offices, had him listed in their directory, intranet, phone system, nothing. Nobody that should of, had ever heard of the guy.
Then his references turned out to be bogus. He was due to provide references from a Gina Meadows and an Alan Barnett, both allegedly at Google. Alan was apparently due to have an Australian accent according to Brian. But what do you know, they didnt seem to exist at Google either when we checked.
We even rang the Alumni dept at Notre Dame university where he claims to have graduated from, but they have no record of him.
And then to nail the coffin shut, the official Google HR dept responded to our formal enquiry seeking employment verification, reporting that he isn't and never was an employee of their company. All you do is send them an email, and they will confirm. Only took a few hours.
Of course when we confronted him about it, he was aghast, and is still trying to convince me otherwise that he is still at Google with fake paperwork, pay cheques, W2's. Which I find even more worrying. He could easily slip by someone with all the fake paperwork and references
He even tried to convince me he had a Google email address, sending me this email from [email protected]. How ridiculous is that! The domain name whois even showed itself to be registered not more than 12 hours before he sent the mail.
This man is either an out and out con artist or just a fantasist. Perhaps both. If you ever come across Brian Bolger, or his company Downtown Consulting, approach with extreme caution.
Brian Bolger seems to be an expert at trying to get companies to employ him. He was even trying to get us to advance 2 months of salary to cover his re-location expenses to the UK. That could well be the central part of the scam. I guess we'll never know. And thank god for that.
The only thing that seems to be true about him is that he owns or rents out property on the west coast and in Seattle, through a company called Downtown consulting services. His name might also actually be Brian Bolger, as we booked a transatlantic plane ticket for him to fly him into the UK for interview under that name, which means he has a passport for the same. Unless that's faked too of course, in which case this guy is one dangerous individual.
Avoid like plague.
