Garnishing Wages

I started getting multiple phone calls from some unknown 888 number in which no one would speak when I answered the phone so I simply quit answering the calls, Pretty soon I started getting messages on my answering machine asking for myself but stating if this is not "my name" and you continue to listen to the message you are acknowledging that you are "my name"- okay now how do the know they even have to correct number? That makes no sense at all.

Anyways, about a year ago I had filled out paperwork to deffer my student loan because I still was not working full time after finishing school, I had not heard anything so I thought I was okay until I started getting these calls in which I still was not sure who this collection agency was. Then about a month ago I recieved a letter stating they were going to garnish my wages because I had not complied! This was the first letter form correspondence I had ever recieved. So, I quickly called the number on the letter to get this worked out and spoke with a represtative who was unprofessional, not understanding, uncooperative or not to say the least not a good customer service rep for a company who collects on behalf of the Government. So she advised I send in my financial info and we can work out a payment plan based on my salary to prevent the garnishment as long as I "agreed" to the terms. So I faxed my info in and shortly thereafter I got a call from this same representative advising they are willing to accept 15% of my wages as "agreed upon" repayment - which would be $380.00/mo! Considering I bring home about $1850.00/mo (which sounds good) but I am a single mom to 2 children have a mortgage to make and all the other utilitilities, food/clothing etc. I did let her know this would cause great financial hardship and could not afford to make this payment and needed something lower - she told me to fax all paperwork to file a "hearing" to prevent wage garnishment and that I had until 07/05/07 to get this in. I faxed the info on 06/25/07 (I have the fax confirmation) once I had all info needed.

However, yesterday in the U. S Mail I got a letter from this company advising I had not complied and they are going to garnish wages at 15% of my gross salary! This letter was dated 06/28/07- which was 3 days after I faxed this info - I have tried to call the same representative multiple times to find out what is going on and have not been able to reach her - first I left voicemail messages requesting a call back (which I still have not gotten) and then yesterday I tried calling her extension and it rang and was directed to another extension! What is going on with this company? I am trying to comply and make "reasonable" payments but they are down right expecting this money NOW - and not even trying to work with me whe I have done everything I was advised of.

So, now it looks like my kids will be without groceries and a good chance my house will default due to the fact that my mortgage just adjusted last month to an additional $600.00/mo!

The fusterating part is that my Boyfriend has been trying to assist me with this problem because he knows first hand what my situation is and how this comapny is SUPPOSED TO WORK - see he works for EdFund - the #2 School loan Collection agency in the US (Van Rue Coporation is below them).

This is ridiculous and unprofessional - most of all they are collectors. I know they get paid based on commission and thats all they know is $- But im sure other people out there have this same problem - high bills, families, adjustable mortgages and limited income and greedy a* collectors on their back! Im not a dead-beat, nor a user, I am a single full-time mother/full time employee stressed out over the harrassing calls all hours of the day well into the night and no responce to the information I have already submitted! I would like to know how they expect me to support my kids, pay living expenses and give them more money than I have after my bills are paid? Im luck if I have $150.00-$200.00 to buy food, gas for the car and get my kids their necessitites? Im not one of the lucky people who get child-support or have any other means of earnings. This is so fusterating!
