Jackie Springfield (now Jackie Harrington since she changed her name) is still up to the same behavior of shipping sick cats and sending cats that are not what you purchased, as of May... That's over 10 years of complaints and no charges have ever been brought against her for fraud and theft across so many state lines.
We purchased two adult cats from Jackie Springfield. One was supposed to be a pregnant female. She said she didnt have hair or fuzz and we paid $1,000 extra because she said she was pregnant and would send a signed litter registration for the kittens due in 4 weeks. (2 different litter registration were sent, (one signed by Sharon Carter and one signed by Bill Curl but appears match Jackie Springfields writing) She insisted that the entire amount be paid upfront for the health certificate, carriers, shipping, etc. So we paid in full. The cats were supposed to be shipped day after day and we were becoming concerned that she had our money and we had no cats. We called and asked why she wasnt shipping and we got many confusing answers (Anyone who has talked to Jackie Springfield about cats say she seems to be "out of it", confused, and talks in circles) so arranging shipping and trying to communicate with her is very challenging. (When I questioned her about her confusion she said it is from medications)
The cats were shipped COD even though shipping was paid for in advance! I was stunned! This is how she makes an additional $400.00.. The airlines reported the diarreah was so profuse, it could not be contained in the carriers. I immediately made an appointment with my veterinarian and the cats were found to have many, many untreated illmesses and required multiple medications. One adult is cleared of his bacterial and parasite infections but because of being left untreated by Jackie Springfield for so long, now has chronic diarreah from irritable bowel syndrome and requires 2 times a day medication and special food. The other adult is treated and well. She was told to us to be a show quality cat. Her tail kink is so severe it can be seen from across the room! Her papers came as non-showable due to incomplete 3 generation pedegree - even if she didnt have the severe kink. My veterinarian reported the day she arrived as not being pregnant, as well as very ill of course. I called and told her of all the medical problems and registration problems, the COD charge, ect and she wanted to know the medications and dosages were because she "has alot of strange deaths and dying kittens" I sent her an email with the details of the medical report, all the medications and dosages and her reply was a picture of her and her new husband James Harrington (she said she knew him for 6 weeks so he probably has know idea what she has done to people for so long) No comment about the illnesses or expenses.
I have sent a demand letter for the overpayment of $1,000 for a pregnant female who wasn't pregnant...$400.00 in COD charges we paid for in advance, and all the medical bills for cats who have been seen every three weeks for ongoing problems from her cattery. She said she is filing bancrupcy and cannot pay but will ship 2 female kittens from a litter she is expecting. She said there is nothing we can do about what she does because people would have to go to Kentucky to file charges because that is where the transaction took place and that if I won a judgement against her, I would have to give the cats back because we "can't have both" money for medical bills AND the cats (nobody accused her of being very bright) and that if we tried to pursue anything, she would ask for a kitten from us (huh?) so... She has no intention of making what she did to us right. We LOVE these cats and feel like we saved them from a disgusting place as everyone else who has filed a complaint has said. We just don't feel like we needed to pay thousands of dollars to do so.
Why has she done this to so many people for so many years and not had to answer for it? She should be charged criminally for her continued behavior as others have said, and not just for monetary damages. Imagine how many people she has done this to that have NOT reported it?
Please, if Jackie Springfield has done this to you, Please, report it here so we know how many state lines she has crossed with this activity of selling sick kittens and cats, cats that die after arriving, cats paid for that have never been sent, cats that don't match their registration papers, no registration papers, COD charges that have been paid for up front, driving hours and finding the price is $500.00 more when you get there, etc.
