I have (had) my e-mail routed through Outlook Express on my computer. I am a writer and was working on a script and had another project in another window. At 10:53 A.M. MST, on August 3, I got the Outlook signal for new mail, then a pop-up filled my screen. It was blank but the browser said something about Spy Ear and I heard a woman's sultry voice, "I can hear you." It was associated with an spammed e-mail soliciting for 250 free business cards. I tried to close the window but it was frozen. No graphics. I couldn't access my documents but was able to access Outlook. I switched over to the Outlook Express window and saw that I had received an e-mail with a couple of pop-up ads which had frozen my system addressed from specialoffers@offers. IExpect. ComI called tech support to find out what to do. They told me that I would have to reboot and when I did, it might lose data. As it turned out. I required technical support to come get my system back up and running, but when it did, I had lost several programs and a significant amount of data, including that which had been saved. I had fallen victim to a Trojan Horse intrusion which damaged my $1,600 system. I am furious because I had about 600 hours of work on a script for a major project that had been approved by a movie producer/director and lost 114 pages of my book. I had backup, but lost my connection and that can not be found now. The technicians did some checking and said that I needed to take it up with the perpetrators, iExpect.com and their server/provider is Exodus Communications Inc., 2831 Mission College Blvd., Santa Clara, CA 95054, Toll Free - 877.393.7878; or 877.839.6387; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]. They are the sole contact for iExpect.com. Vistaprint.com is supposed to be a reputable company that markets their product this way. VistaPrint is a member of the Better Business Bureau, so there is no record of complaints.
