A simple way to ensure that you do not get ripped off (other than not getting lured in the first place) is to call your bank the same day and have a Stop Payment put on the checks you wrote to those scamming jerks. You should also send in your receipt and a letter to the company, but calling your bank is a sure-fire way to keep your money where you want it.
