I have fallen for the exact same scam. My question is, what is the best thing to do about it? I am so embarrased that I did this. I NEVER talk to the telemarketers that try to sell me office supplies. But this one knew my office manager's name and said she had talked to her already, so I think that grabbed my attention. Of course, after ordering 8 boxes worth of supplies and my manager comes out to question me about it, I find out she never talked to anyone! So I came online and sure enough, when I type in the company name, the first site that comes up is usacomplaints.com.
So I haven't gotten my invoice yet, but I tried calling the company a few times and have left meassages on their voicemail, but no one has called me back. My question is, should I just send the boxes back without actually talking to the people? Or should I try and get a hold of someone first? And if I don't send the boxes back and don't pay, how could they come after us?
This is so clearly a scam, they would have no right to make us pay, and I couldn't see them taking any kind of legal action because they are so clearly in the wrong. I am very surprised they haven't yet been shut down! I just want to make sure I handle this the right way so we are not held lible for anything. Any suggestions?
