Emerson Publishing - The Sweepstakes Audit Bureau
Sent a 'registered' letter claiming a prize for 12 million dollars, ripoff

This company sends bogus registered letters to people requesting a one time $5.00 research and data fee for a $12,000, 000.00 sweepstakes prize report, satisfaction guaranteed or your money back. They give you a document number, a claim form you must return by the deadline with your $5.00 fee, and advise you to keep the letter for your records.

The letter seems official. The wording combines the right amount of urgency, promise, 'advise' and rules. It even states you may need to sign an affidavit of eligibility, and reminds you of your responsibility to pay taxes on your prize.

It could be real, right? Maybe worth $5.00, right? NOT!

Unsuspecting victims of this type of fraud - be aware: authentic registered mail MUST be signed for, if you have won a cash or other type of prize you wont have to pay a fee to receive a report showing your eligibility - you actually get your prize, and the company issuing your prize will include a varifiable, physical street address and phone number (not a p.O. Box only).
