Fraudulent Use of My Account Marina Ripoff Del Rey

Beware of the Internet Company called Epassport.com. I was checking my account after returning from vacation to make sure everything was ok with my account. The customer service representative at my bank informed me that my account was overdrawn. I immediately became alarmed because I knew that I had enough funds in my account to cover all transactions I had made and I was simply calling to get the amount of what was left in my account.

The bank notified me that a transaction from Epassport.com came through on my account on 10/11/06 at 9:19pm for $202.00, which happened to be the day after I returned from vacation. I immediately informed them that I had no clue who or what this company was and they provided me with the phone number attached to the transaction.

Upon calling Epassporte.com, they found an account for me under my debit card number. I informed them that I did not create this account and I wanted to get to the bottom of this. I spoke with Reggie who told me when the account was created and that from what he saw; a fake email address was used. I instructed him to block the account from any further usage. I was told the fraud department from Epassporte would contact me.

I was still very uneasy about this situation because I know I did not open this account. I placed a second call to Epassporte and spoke with a Renee. I explained to Renee what happened and asked her to explain to me how an account is created because it doesn't seem that this company verifies enough information before taking peoples money.By her tone of voice, I could tell Renee was very bothered by my request. But why... After all the company that she works for took money from my account without my authorization. After telling me that the account must be created on line and only name and email address is required. The line was disconnected. I called back 3 minutes later and Renee answered the phone. I asked to speak with a Supervisor and Renee Edmondson indicated she was a Supervisor and "Maybe I was speaking with another Renee." I proceeded to ask her the following questions and here were the answers.

Which last name was the account created under because I have a hyphenated last name. I was told, "We can't tell you that". What was the email address used to create the account?"We can't tell you that".

What was the item purchased?"We can't tell you that."
Where was the item shipped?"We can't tell you that."
"Just wait for our Fraud department to call you" is what I was told. How am I supposed to feel comfortable with that answer? Renee told me "there is nothing else that can be done."

I called my bank again and immediately had to close out my account. They then informed me to contact Epassporte again and find out what the verification process of steps were. I spoke with Reggie again who walked me through the steps as follows.

The account is accessed on line.
Name and email address is required with a debit, credit card or account number.

Epassporte then sends a verification dollar amount to the bank given on line.

The person creating the account must call the bank to verify the amount sent to the account and then call Epassporte back with the figure to make sure the account is valid and ready for usage.

My bank will then ask me to verify security questions to make sure I was accessing the right account.

I then called my bank back and gave them the steps. They reviewed my call history and no one verified any dollar amount sent to my account and they had no record of me calling in regards to Epassporte until they told me about the transaction.

I have called Epassport everyday since I found out about this and I still am being told "it is being worked on but they have no information for me."

This company should be shut down. They use inappropriate verification methods and they treat these situation too lightly. This must stop. I will also file a police report in regards to this matter.
