I received a postcard in the mail (an urgentgram) that said i was identified as a recipient of a government grant of at least $5000. It claimed it was official and even had a tracking number. I called the toll free number and they asked me for the tracking number and they told me i would receive at least $5000. First they needed $299.97 for the paperwork involved. They asked me for my bank account number and I'm sure they asked for my social security number. They told me I was guaranteed a minimun of $5000. They gave me a verification number of 2619684.
A few weeks later I received a package in the mail. It was an application for the grant. I filled it out and I had to return the package First Class. I haven't heard of anything since.
Finally I called 3 phone numbers they had given me. Each phone number failed to work. I could not get a connection.
So I decided to search on-line and I found out this was all a scam! I haven't noticed any money taken out of my bank account. But I think tomorrow I will have to call and change my account number. I am also going to look at my credit report.
Needless to say I am very upset over this. Like the saying goes, if it looks too good to be true, it probably isn't.
