Janome Sewing machine:
My wife's mother died and left her money to buy a new sewing machine. She told her to buy new, since she always had hand-me - downs. My wife went to local Janome dealer to make purchase.
Owner told her that it was a $1000 machine. Someone had put down $200 layaway and never came back. He would also give her $200 for her old machine and a $100 discount. This brought the total to $500 tax. No prices were available on floor models.
When I got home, I went online to check prices. This machine was $299 retail, on sale for $149. I went to the store 4/24 to speak with the owner. He was not there and was told to come back the next day. I went back on 4/25 and was told the owner was not there but, a mistake had been made by the girl who retrieved the Model 405 and it was the wrong model. The man went to the back and got a Model 521, and said this was the machine you were supposed to get. I thanked him and went home to check prices online. The machine retailed for $399, on sale for $229. I called 3 stores in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas and was told the same thing.
When I went back to the store, I was very polite and asked if we could have a refund. The new sewing machine was still in the unopened box and I said my wife had decided against spending $500 on a new machine. I was told "All sales are final, period". They told me, she bought it and they don't give refunds or exchanges.
I've called the company and filed a complaint and spoke with the area representative. He said they have gotten simular complaints and have started a file on this dealer.
