The latter part of November, I received a catalog from Carol Wright Gifts.in bold letters on the cover page is printed: Free shipping on any order from this catalog. I was interested because I NEVER order from catalogs that charge shipping.in most cases, although items may be reasonably priced, the outrageous shipping charges dilute any saving they may offer.
I ordered the EverLifeFlashlight, with a 'free' compact size thrown in. Price: $19.95. My check #7401 for the correct amount was sent in on 12/8/05. It cleared my bank on 12/15/05.
Did not make a date of its receipt but I received a form letter dated 1/4/06 stating while processing my order, they discovered a balance due of #2.95 but my order is not delayed and is 'already on its way to you.'
At the time I received the letter, I still did not have the flashlight I ordered. On 1/16/05, I received a catalog from another vendor who had the identical flashlight at $9.98, two for $18.50; both full size. Since there were no shipping charges tacked on, I ordered two of them. (I have since received this merchandise.)
On 1/19/06 I sent a letter questioning the $2.95 they say is due, also stating my order has not yet been received. Prior to that, I went to the website where in addition to shipping, they showed a 'Handling' charge of $1.95. I do not have a copy of the order I sent Carol Wright, but know I definitely would NOT have placed an order if there was anything over and above the charge for the merchandise.
On 2/13/06, I received a response stating my order was shipped and if not received in two weeks to contact them so they may 'investigate' the problem. They also said the $2.95 was a 'Handling charge.'
The same afternoon, I sent them a letter stating I do not have need for an additional flashlight and I do not wish to wait the two weeks. I requested a refund of my $19.95 which they have had use of for over two months. I have not received my refund as yet.
Am I being too picky? This is the first problem I've encountered when ordering from catalogs.
