Chosen for $12,500 Goverment Grant - how did they get my name?

On Jan. 2 I received a telephone call from an individual from Advantage America with a heavy Indian or Pakistani accent saying I had been awarded a $12,500 goverment grant. Supposedly this was "extra money" the government had not spent and was being re-distributed to selected taxpayers. Lucky me, my name was chosen! He had all my personal information (which he read off to me) except for my bank account # which was required for direct deposit. He assured me this was no scam and said he could not put the check in the mail for fear it might get lost. I finally hung up on the jerk.

Strangely, this call came about two hours after I had been on-line to complete a warranty registration for an electronics product purchased a few days earlier. Seemed there might be a connection even though this was supposedly a "secure site". At my request the manufacturer investigated but could find no evidence that my personal information had been compromised.

Wondering if anyone else had been contacted by Advantage America following on-line entry of personal information?
