I was contacted this morning at 8am by advantage america. I was told that i had been awarded a goverment grant. The amount was to be 12,500. I was ask if i knew what a government grant was and i told them yes. I was then told that the only thing that the would need would be the name of where i banked and my account number. I ask why he needed my account number, he stated that it was needed to transfer my money into my account. He said that after getting my number they would confirm it and call me back in five minutes with 2 (800) numbers and a conformation number also.
I just kept asking him for a number so that i could call him back now after i spoke with my bank. When asking him some questions he became more insistent about getting my account number. He ask why i din't want to give him the number and stated that it was ok and that there wasn't any risk because no one could remove my money but me or with my ok. I told no you could clean me out with just my account number and that there were no other numbers. He kept telling me that it wasn't my acount number that could get access to my acount but another number, like i had some sort of other number that was used, like a conformation number.
I then ask him the name of the company once again and where they were at and he just kept going on telling me that i must give him the number or i would loss the money. I told him i didn't care and that he wasn't getting my number. He had me talk to two other people to try and convince me to give them my number. I ask for a number that i could call them back at after i talked to my bank.
Well, they wouldn't have any of that so i then ask them to hold on while i looked or my wallet. I put the phone down went into the other room with my cell phone and called my bank. I told the lady that i spoke with what was going on and what they wanted and she said no! Don't give them your acct. Number. I told her i hadn't and wouldn't.
After speaking breifly, not wanting them to hold too long i told them that they were not getting my number and that was that and that i had spoken with my bank and they said no number and that was that, period. The lady ok and thank you and hung up. The people that i spoke with all fr0m india it sounded like. The first man very very hard to understand and the other man and woman didn't have as strong of an accent as the first one. Be very careful because they are very convincing and persistent. I hadn't even applied for a grant. Oh yes he said that my name was picked randomly by a computer to receive the grant. Hey don't you have to apply for grants before you get one? These are all claiming to be government workers.
