Friday evedning November 11th I received a phone call from a company calling themselves Advantage America. I was told they were a government agency and I had been chosen out of 100 people to receive a grant from the government of $12,500!!! I was sceptical right away and asked how did they get my name for this grant money. She said to me "you paid your taxes right?" I said yes then she said "I was chosen because I had filed my income taxes" I thought well who dosen't file taxes. She said her name was Jennifer Jones and all she needed was to know if I had a checking account. I said yes. Then she asked where is that account at. I told her I was not comfortable giving out that information. She had some disgust in her voice and said if she does not know the name of the bank where my account is at they could not put the grant money in there. I said the name of my bank and just like that she said "quickly get your checkbook and verify the first set of numbers at the bottom of your check" she read the numbers off and I was suprised that she had the routing number of my acount just like that!!! I was still very unsure but she was insisting that "I was getting grant money and I understood what grant money is right?" I was about to hang up and she became angry and said "I will get my supervisor" I was not giving out any information to him either because as I told the first gal "I am not comfortable giving them that information. He said this is a very prestigious award of free grant money and I would be a fool to pass it up. I was so pressured by his insistance and kept asking him questions. He told me that in 4-5 days I would receive a packet in the mail and in the packet would be coupons to use at any grocery store nation wide. The coupons are worth $500.00 alone. He then said he had to verify my name address and the routing number that the first lady had read to me. I was so suprised that they had all that information and started to think this might be for real!!! What an idiot I am!!! He ended up getiing my bank account number from me and said a fee of $49.95 would be taken out in 2 business days and I better make sure that there is funds in there for that amount. He then transfered me to a voice computer to verify all my information. It asked questions and I had to say yes to all the questions, I said no to the question "is your checking accounting number???" When i said no I would not give that infomation the so called supervisor jumped right in and said "i must give that number or they will not be able to deposit the money" I told him I really don't feel comfortable giving him that information. He said if this was not a ligitimate company they would be asking for a credit card number or a debit account. I then asked him for a number to call him back at, the number he gave me was 1-866-503-7354. After we hung up I tried to call the number and it said that number is not availble from my calling area. Please don't be duped like myself and so many others I have read about on this website! I have tried to call many of the other phone numbers from other complaints and waited on the line for 30 minutes listing to "our customer service agents are still assisting other customers, please stay on the line and we'll be more than happy to assist you" Yeah right!!! Assist in a rip-off is all they are happy to do. Beware of this scam and tell all your friends and family!!!
