I just recieved a call today from a man from a company called Adantage America. He had a thick accent. He stated that they were through the Federal Government and they were giving grants away to the honest taxpayer.
A red flag went up when he said that the of the company was Advantage America of the Federal Government, I thought that was a lame name. They also were giving a free phone card and 500 dollars in coupons.
He went on to tell me that the grant was for 12500 dollars. He said that the coupons could be traded in for cash at my bank. Then he went on to inform me after I trade in the coupons that they would have to charge ONLY 49.95 to my account for the processing of the grant. I would recieve the grant 3-5 days later.
He had already given their address and phone number and said that he had to transfer me to a verification line which was automated. The recording came on, which was a woman, and asked for my full name. I did give them that but then they asked for my bank's name so I preceded to hang up.
I then checked out the web address which came up void. I have already talked to my bank and the Federal Trade Commision about this scam. Please, don't anyone give their info out over the phone ever... I am so glad I didn't!!!
