I got a statement from a MasterCard I didn't know I still had yesterday. On it was a single charge for $9.95 from a company called "Evergreen Alliance" in Washington State. Now, if I wanted to steal a lot of money one neat way of doing it would be to steal small amounts from a lot of people at once by getting hold of a list of credit card numbers. Most people don't check their statements all that closely, and very few would bother to call the credit card company to complain even if they noticed it. "I must have bought something online, " I thought.
Call the phone number on your credit card receipt, and you'll get a recording telling you so send inquiries to [email protected]. Putting evergreensoft.com into my browser sends me to a site that appears to have been abandonned some time ago, since the newest item in the "Site News" section is over a year old. Clicking around the site betrays the fact that this isn't really an active website at all, but probably some kind of a front.
