University of Phoenix is a SCAM!

Earlier in 2005 I was cold-called by a University of Phoenix-Online "Enrollment Advisor". After informing her that I was not eligible for financial aid or government student loan, I told her that the only way I could attend was to make payments on the tuition until such time as my corporate reimbursement through my employer was enough to keep rolling over. I was told on many occasions by the advisor that this would not be a problem and I could start attending classes very soon.

About 2 weeks after my first "class" (May 29), I receive an email from my "financial advisor" that she had attempted to charge my credit card for full payment and it was declined and now I am past-due. I replied that I had no knowledge of having to pay in full and that I was promised I could make payments on the tuition and giving them my credit-card number was just a formality and that someone would be calling me to make a payment schedule. I then received a reply saying that this was not an option and with a corporate reimbursement plan they only defer the payment 45 days after class starts.

Time got away from me when work picked up for a short time and on June 17th I attempted to make a purchase with some funds from my weekly paycheck and come to find out that University of Phoenix charged my credit card/checking account for $500.00 (my whole paycheck slightly less) and then 8 more additional charges of $100.00. My bank apparently didn't know what was going on and reversed the charges. The next day, June 18 I had my paycheck back which I immediately transferred to an account no connected to my credit card in fear of what was happening and knowing if it did I was not going to have any funds to purchase food, medication and pay my rent.

On June 20 (the following Monday) I check my account to see all the charges there (along with a $34.00 NSF fee my bank charges for each one) for a total of -$1,445.91. This in not including any transaction pending before this happened.

For almost a month now I have been corresponding with and practically begging my "financial advisor" in to either honoring the verbal agreement and return my money or return my money completely and call it an "unsatisfied customer". They have ignored all of my requests and have not even bothered to call me to resolve the problem.instead I keep receiving letters in the mail saying I still owe them over $470.00, I am past-due on that as well, and if I don't pay it within a few weeks they are going to submit it to collections.

Through University of Phoenix's actions I am unable to pay my rent and face eviction within a few days, am unable to purchase food, medication, or even pay my electric bill. I will recoup my losses, but at what price? 3 paychecks are going to just pay back the NSFs in my checking account and will be put into collections by all my other creditors. When this is all done and through I will be out almost $1000.00 and be delinquent in almost $4000.00 with my creditors. Not to mention in serious bad standing with my apartment complex.

I am currently compiling a whole stack of problems im seeing with University of Phoenix's proceedures. They lie to get you in, they lie to you as your in and when time comes to pay them they lie to you even more and manipulate those lies to cover even more lies. Its a SCAM!
