Moments Ago... 2 gentelman arrived at my door, giving the song and dance that others here have listed. Others descriptions of what they went thru described what happened to me to a tee.
The gentelman said they were earning points towards a trip, and they rambled on and on quite quickly. I too was suckered in to the trap. The two magazines I picked came to a grand total of 90 dollars. I told them, that I could not afford 90 dollars of magazines, but that I would like to help.
Long story short I got 1 magazine for 35.00 and I wrote them a check and they were on there way. Unsure of the entire transaction, and reading my receipt I decide to get online to see if I could cancel the transaction online.
Well... My online searching brought me here and instantly my stomach dropped. I was able to track the gentleman down two doors over and I asked them for my check back.
I had told them that I wasn't sure what they were involved in, and I didn't want to know, but I did want my check back. I informed them, that they were selling magazines for a company that is riddled with better busines bureau bad feedback.
The one gentleman said..."OOOO some lady told me she read that online today, trust me dude, you will get your magazines." I asked him..." How did you know that the bad news said that I wont get my magazines? I never told you that."
He then told me that he would give me the number of the company and I could sleep easy. I told him, that he could give me my check, and that would solve everything. He did, and then he told me in an angry fashion that I should not believe everything I read on the internet.
I called my local village and police department, and neither were eager to assist.
Just wanted you all to know that I apreciated the posts and was glad to know that I didn't get scammed.
I must also add, that its getting harder and harder to help in your local community. My wife and myself live tight like I'm sure most due, and we try really hard to spend all of our spare money in our community. We love to help out and to give back even though we dont have children, and it really stinks when you can't even do that anymore.
It's really sad to say, but we have had hand fulls of children coming to our home, claiming to sell candy for school, etc. And we have found out later that mom and dad bought em a candy fund raiser pack at gordons and that the kids were just raising some summer spending cash.
At this point, we are no longer donating door to door.
If people stop by, we will get the name of the school, and its address and we will take a check to the school.
