Magazine Sales Scam Tricks young adults into slave labor and violent situations. Jacksonville

This company advertises in thousands of newspapers across the country. The ads state; "Fun Travel Job, Paid Training, Young people needed, Paid Transportation and lodging. Call ACE Inc."

When you call the number, a "manager" will return your call to "interview" you. He tells everyone the same exact thing: 'You sound sharp. We really need a motivated and wonderful person like you!'

By then they have built up your ego to make you feel perfect for the job. They then convince you to buy a ticket to whatever location the sales crew is at. Sometimes they even go as far as to offer to pay for the ticket to make you feel wanted.

When you arrive they try to butter you up some more with parties and drugs. They are preying on the fact that you are young and probably in a bad home situation. They tell you stories of riches and fame. They talk about famous stars starting out the same way.in my case it was Jim Carrey. (false claim)

In a few days things change fast. They throw you in a neighborhood in the middle of nowhere, and tell you to meet thier qouta or they will "break your face." With no training you are expected to sell an over-priced magazine subscription to people that have three or four people try the same thing each year. I was shot at, detained by police twice, and chased by a large number of dogs. Definitely not the fun job they described.

When I told them this job probably isn't for me, they pulled out a gun and told me to get my stuff packed because there is no room for a negative thinker. They told me to get into the van.

At this time I thought I was about to die. They stopped at a payphone, and threw my stuff out and told me to get out. They said 'you can find a way home punk. This isn't a travel agency." They sped off, leaving me stranded two thousand miles from home.

Don't fall for this scam. It's slave labor. The so-called "paid training" is 10 dollars a day for 17-20 hours of work per day. You never sign a contract or job application let alone tax papers, so you are pretty much a slave. There are alot of young kids trapped in these things.
