I have read many of the entries on here and am very upset I didn't know of this before I made a huge mistake by enrolling at AIU Online. Basically, it has been a train wreck since day one however I managed to get though ALL the episodes until December.
I began my Bachelor's program in November with a completion date (graduation) of December 18. I transfered in many credits from college courses attained at the traditional university I attended... So in a round about way I entered AIU as a junior.
Three weeks before I was scheduled to graduate (November 27 to be exact) I received a call from my academic advisor informing me that I was short general elective credits and have to take four more classes (another $5200)!! AIU has had my transcripts since October and they just now over a year later figured out I was short general education credits? Well, that's when I said enough is enough and since that time I have contacted the SACS over a dozen times, no response, the Dean of Students and the Asst. Dean of Students, no response. My academic advisor, no response. Now here's the kicker... February 5th I will finish up a five week session of my so called general ed classes I was short and I have one more session to go with a graduation date of March 19. Well, because I am not eligible for any more EDUCAID loans until July and I cannot get anymore personal loans because I am over my limit I have been informed by the school that if I don't pay the balance due ($5200) by the start of the next session, Feb. 13 I will be automatically withdrawn from the school and will not be allowed to take the one last class I need to graduate!!!
So, here I am... I busted my ass for 16 months (I have a 3.85 GPA) gone into debt BIG TIME (over $25,000) and one class short of my degree... It was all for nothing. I am a single Mom of three, my son starts college in August and all I wanted to do is make my life and my kids life better.instead, I have nothing to show for all the work and effort I have put into this program.
By the way, for those of you who respond to other posts in here to people complaining about the cost and how they should realize that going in to it... Well, I don't have a problem paying for something if there is a product or reward at the end of the tunnel. Going into debt $25,000 and having nothing to show for it is nothing but BS so don't bother feeding me your crap, I'm full of enough of it from AIU!!!
If there is anyone out there who reads this who can give me ANY information about how I can file charges against the school or lodge a formal complaint... Anything, please email me ASAP. I am so embarassed and upset I can't even tell my family. I would have been the first college graduate in my immediate family... Ever! I just can't believe that there are people (AIU) out there allowed to ruin people's lives like this and not even be bothered by it.
