Adam Jason Hurwitz aka "AJ" Hurwitz is a scam artist operating out of Boynton Beach, Florida. He's been running a pharmaceutical catering business but over the last year and a half he has also promised business opportunities that he has failed to deliver on.
The ponzi scheme works like this: He advertises through trade magazines and business brokers to promote his "business opportunity". You have the choice of either buying a franchise for a fee of $75,000 or an "equity partnership" for $85,000. The franchise works similarly to any other franchise opportunity, ie, you receive training from him for about a week and he pays to set up your catering facility.
After that, you run the business as if it's your own and you keep 40% of gross revenues from it. The equity partnership is more like an investment in which you own 100% equity in the new catering business he sets up AND manages for you and you receive 20% of the gross revenues on a weekly basis as compensation for your investment.
In either scenario, you are promised a "territory" in which you hold the exclusive rights to. He cannot open another business within that territory that operates the same business. Sounds too good to be true right? Well, after you plunk down your hard earned money for one of these opportunities he lets you a wait a few months. After that, he starts emailing you progress notes on your new business.
Once a few more months pass by, you will actually receive some money each week. Weekly spreadsheets detailing gross revenue and your cut of it and the like are emailed to you. After about six months, you realize that when you ask him anything specific about your newly acquired business, he claims he is too busy to give you any details, for example, the name of the operating manager of the business. A check of the monies you have recieved does not match up with the amounts on the spreadsheets he's been emailing.
Things at this point seem a bit fishy. You start calling him up on his cell phone (which is listed on this complaint) and never get him (unless he wants to sell you another "business opportunity"). After you do a little bit more digging you find the contact information of his "officer of construction".
This person helps him find facility locations, leases, etc for AJ Hurwitz. You find out that this guy also bought an equity partnership from AJ Hurwitz. Shockingly, the contruction guy - Ron Young - tells you his own business hasn't been set up yet.
Even more shockingly, the business you thought you owned that was so profitable for you for months actually doesn't exist. After even more digging, you find there are about a dozen people in the same position as you. Most of us bought equity partnerships and have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to show for it. A request for receipts of expenses toward opening/setting up our businesses is replied with the excuse that he simply has no time to dig these things up.
You ask Ron Young who at one point worked very closely with this AJ Hurwitz about where all the money went and he doesn't have a clue either except that MOST of the money never went in the businesses as it was supposed to. You find out that he has operated businesses in other states without acquiring the proper licenses to run them and thereby he avoids paying state sales taxes and the like.
You also find out from his employees that he pays them under the table and that they never receive W-2's from him. If you have read this far, you will have figured out by now that AJ Hurwitz is a scam or con artist that has been propagating a ponzi scheme that has bilked us innocent investors out of over $1.6 Million USD collectively and at the same time eluded paying Uncle Sam his share. This rat bastard of a human being has lied many times to many people.
Once he knows you have figured him out, he avoids all contact with you except say emails in which he gives you more lies and promises. He still takes his two kids, Alex and Austin, and his whore of a wife, Abby, to Disney World as if he hasn't committed any crimes. This son-of-bitch cocksucker AJ Hurwitz deserves to be locked up in the penitentiary for many years. Hopefully, this will happen in the near future as his crimes have already been reported to the FBI and IRS.
