I got a call in the afternoon, thursday from the govt. Grant processing center, NAVADA and i prequalified for a grant of $8000. I need to pay just $257 and they will send me the authorised papers and asked me if i filed income tax or not. Do i have any criminal records or not.
I said i am not interested and i dont believe in such things. They tried to convince me that i can use the money for any purpose and it is not a loan. Still i did not agree and hung the phone saying i got another call. She said she will call back and she did.
She reapeated the same thing again. She was an indian, and for that matter i guess all of them who are calling are indians. I even asked her if she was indidan and she said her mother was an indian and she was brought up here. I said i dont want anything which was free and i was not interested. She said i cant say no now and i have to talk to their supervisor. She gave the phone to a guy and he repeated the same thing. He said he will give me a phone no and i can call and cancel if i did not like the offer of the federal government later.
I was naive and am new to this country. I did not know that such things happen in the name of govenment and the law does not do anything about it. I thought ok i will get their 800 number and cancel the request. They said they will record my message for accepting the deal and i said that i want to cancel it. They said if i want to cancel i will get a 800 number at the end and i can call them and cancel.
I innocently let them record the message. They took my routing, account and also the check no. For an amount of $257 and they gave me a conformation no and also gave the 800 number but they said it so fast that i couldnt note it down. I thought the guy will return and talk to me after the recording but the phone just hung up. I felt sholcked at that time. They said the amount will be withdrawn from my account if i dont call them by 12th of dec but how will i call. I dont have their 800 no.
I am afraid.
I called all the phone directories after that to find their no but i couldnt get any on the name of their company. Only then i could understand that i had been cheated. I typed the name of the company in the google to try getting their no on the internet and cancel the order but then i saw this site. I felt terrible. I am afraid what they are going to do with this recorded message.
Can anyone suggest me what to do or can anyone give me the 800 number if someone has it. I am really afraid what they are going to do with my information.
Do you know what happened after that? The next day friday, i got a call from the same company with the name of a different person. He reapeated the same thing. I said ok and told them that i had two questions before he wants anything from me. I asked him where he is calling from and he said the same los vegas, navada. I asked him for his 800 number and he hung up.
Cant the investigation beraeau do anything about it. They are cheating innocent people like this in the name of government and the governemment does not even try to protect its name being used. I thought fraud happens only in ohters countries, not in US but this is heights. I didnt see anything like this in my country. Its just rediculous that no action is being taken even after so many people have filed cases against the company.
