I called to cancel Charter Pipeline today (11/15/04). They told me that they couldn't come out to disconnect the service until 11/22/04. They told me I would be billed for service until they could come out and "turn it off at the pole".
They then told me that it was company policy that I had to give them one week's notice before discontinuing my service. I have never heard of that policy, nor have I signed anything stating that I agreed to that policy. They told me this went into effect about 1 year ago. I have had this service for over two years.
I used to work for Charter so I know that they can stop modem service through their ICOMS billing system very easily. All they have to do is "un-provision" the modem. Simple! They don't have to come out to a "pole." They wouldn't do it. Now, I have to pay them for service for another week. What a scam!
I have DSL now anyway. I have also filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office and the BBB. It probably won't do any good so this letter is both theraputic for me and hopefully, a warning for others. Get DSL and a dish.
When a company is in debt to the tune of $18 Billion, I guess they need to make money scamming the customer.
