Co. Worthless Warranty - refused repair service on obvious defect for no valid reason Various Mattress Retailers

Note that this is just ONE of MANY Rip-Off-Reports filed here against SIMMONS Mattress Company. Use the Search function to find others.

We purchased an expensive, near top-of-the-line, king-size SIMMONS mattress from Mattress Discounters in Lake Forest, CA, on Jan. 18,1997. No surprise, that store has long since gone out of business. However, the mattress came with a "10-Year Non-Prorated" warranty from Simmons Bedding Company (www.simmons.com).

Recently, one of the seams of the mattress split open, about 12 inches long. We contacted Simmons, and they sent an inspector to assess the damage.

After the inspector left, we didn't hear from Simmons for weeks. We finally called them to find out the status, and were told that the warranty would not be honored because the mattress was "soiled." The mattress is NOT soiled, and is actually quite clean, except the slight and normal discoloration caused by sleeping on it for 7 years.

In other words, SIMMONS finds any excuse not to honor their warranty. A slight discoloration from body oils is NORMAL after a few years of sleeping on any mattress. It is NOT an excuse for a company to break their contract.

So, we are left with a $1,000 SIMMONS mattress that fell apart after a few years. If you want to buy a Simmons mattress, keep in mind that it may very well fall apart in a few years like ours did - but also keep in mind that they will NOT keep their word, and WILL NOT HONOR their warranty.

Summary: simmons mattress company finds weak excuses to avoid honoring their warranty. Keep this in mind if you consider buying any simmons product.
