First of all, the maintenance fees are insane and have risen something like 40% over the last few years. The maintenance fees end up being the cost of a week at a hotel - not to mention you pay monthly on your loan. You might as well put that money into a savings account every month - it would be about 1k cheaper!
I tried calling their customer service department today. I owe in maintenance fees, and I wanted to see whether or not I should pay the fees in full, or use my points for the year to cover the fees. If the resort I wanted to book at was not available, I would just convert my points.
Sounds simple, right? NOPE! They won't even allow you to check without paying the fees. I'm 90% sure I won't be able to book anything this late in the year - you pretty much have to reserve 8 months in advance (not many people I know can pull that one off).
The representative also informed me that they are only given an allocation of time from each resort, so that's why many customers complain when they call the resorts and find dates available, only to call DRI and find out that they can't book for the week they wanted. Shady, I know.
All in all, this timeshare, as many are, is a SCAM! Stay away! If you get suckered into free Disney tickets, or something simliar, just save up the money to pay for the tickets yourself.
