Deceptive and predatory business DO NOT DEAL WITH THEM

Let me begin by referring to the Better Business Bureau's tips for rip offs when it comes to potential contractors: http://www.bbb.org/us/article/home-contractors-tip-offs-to-potential-rip-offs-536. The first on the list is "Solicits door-to-door." This company does just that (or by phone). I had never bought of a roof before and had asked a knowledgeable family member to look at my roof for hail damage after the storm in 2011 and everything appeared to be okay. This company contacted me claiming they were in the area and noticed damage on my roof and they would like to drop by and inspect it. Sounded harmless enough, so I did so.

Once they arrived they confirmed that there was damage on my roof and that they would handle filing the claim with my insurer and would negotiate and meet the insurance adjustor when they came to my home. Weeks went by and they had done nothing, so I filed a claim on my own. The person from Capital Restoration did arrive but was very late (I had called and told them when the insurance adjustor was coming multiple times). They did no such negotiations with the adjustor and although the person from Capital Restoration claimed he could be able to get me all kinds of extra money from the insurance company he actually did no such thing. Shortly after this encounter my insurance adjustor told me frankly that if anything this person from Capital Restoration caused me to get less (he continually argued with me when I pointed out damages claiming they were not damages).

So of course when the check came this Capital Restoration felt entitled to it. I simply ignored their calls. Why would I need them they had provided no service and would not produce an estimate for the job when asked? Which brings me to another sign to be wary from the BBB's list "Pressures you for an immediate decision." The agent I dealt with was personable and friendly when he came to my house telling me how he was going to help me with the big bad insurance who doesn't want to pay for anything. He became rude and felt the need to tell me if I didn't make a quick decision he would not be able to do the job because he had a vacation planned. Wow, a real hard worker there.

In short, this company is deceptive and wants people to sign a phony contract and then simply harass them into whatever amount they feel they are entitled to for doing the minimal amount of work possible with the cheapest materials. If you have been duped into signing a contract where they claim they are entitled to some negotiated rate with insurers and they do not show up or show up late or do not negotiate with your adjustor they are not entitled to anything, I say this as a lawyer who has discussed this among my colleagues and one who has been duped. I subsequently hired a reputable person to put my roof and and all is well, no thanks to Capital Restoration.
