We know we're not the only one Hayes Homes has done this to. On July 8 we John & Betty of Poland Indiana did give Don Hayes of Hayes Homes of Bloomington, In. A 10% upfront fee for the purchase of a Champion of Tenneessee log 28'X 56' double wide manufactured home.
We were told that it would take three to six weeks to bring the home from Tenneessee and install to full living condition on our property. We required an extra two weeks for the removal of an existing manufactured home and added on room. Since we ordered the home at the Bloomington office and the Spencer office is closer to our property, we were told by Mr. Hayes to meet him at the Spencer office to give him the 10% down, so we did. It was trying to storm so he waited in his car for us. After giving Mr. Hayes the check I asked him for the our copy of the purchase agreement (which had been withheld pending financing). He said he had forgot ot at the Bloomington office and would bring it the next time. We never got it.
There was a two week delay in the transport of the home due to construction on the highway. Mr. Hayes workers did not arrive to install the footer until the last three days of August. The footer had to be repaired three times. It was the first week in November before the house was installed and joined together, and before it was actually joined Matt Hayes crashed the end of the back half of the home which set busted from the third week of September to the first week in December, through the snow and rain. Now the roofs warped.
Also we had to go ahead and move in because we couldn't afford to pay the price to stay in a hotel for that long.
To make a long story short, it is now May 25 and our house is still not done. All of Mr. Hayes phones have been disconnected and the BBB or the Indiana Attorney Generals office will do nothing to help, and because we don't have a purchase agreement our lawyer can't do anything. So here we sit with our yard trashed out with wheels and tires and trash. We have no gutters, no backfill and no air conditioning. We do have plenty of busted block, piles of sand and giant mud holes to make it impossible to mow grass.
We just heard that Mr. Hayes has taken the rest of the homes on his lot and put them pieces of property he bought and has them ready to sell just since January but he tells the Attorney General that he can't get ours finished because of the weather. What do you think? P.S. There never was any building inspections done either.
