East Moving Deceptive business practices and false advertisement

I received an online quote to move my furniture from Georgia to Maryland from Reggie with East Movers.
I signed and paid $3795 in full for the move on Friday, July 22 with an electronic bank transfer.

The mover arrived at my home around 12:30pm on July 26. The Forman said to my wife who was at the home that there is more furniture in the home than on the list which we explained that not all of the furniture was going. We added a King size mattress set, which was not on the list although we provided to the mover a king mattress and three
full mattresses. The mover then said that our furniture is larger than normal and that is weighs more so in order
for the company to move the furniture it will cast between $2300 and $8200 to move everything. I called the East
Movers customer service number and Mr. James Hattfield customer service representative, explained that his crews Forman was very experienced and has worked for the company for over five years and he knows what he is talking
about. Mr. Hattfield from East Movers then says we have over 30,000 pounds of furniture in my 4 bedroom, 3500 sq. Ft.
House, and that if I get an estimate from any mover the cost will be between $12,000 and $17,000 for the move. But if
we move only what is on the list it the cost would still increase because of the size of the furniture. The moving
crew did not move one box or one piece of furniture and I asked them to leave the property.

I spoke to Mr. Hattfield from East Movers again around 5:15pm on July 26 and he suggested I get quotes from several other companies. I received three separate quotes from two small independent movers and a large moving company. The smaller moving companies quoted me a price between $3700 to $4500 to move everything in the house (everything on the list plus outdoor furniture and additional table and sofa). The larger company (United Van Lines) quoted me a price of $6100 to move everything in the house and included the refrigerator for additional weight to get a not to exceed price. United Van Lines explained that he overestimated the weight to be around 12,000 pounds and if it weighs less money would be refunded to me.

I sent an email to East Movers telling them I will not be using their services on Friday, July 29 after speaking with
my attorney who warned me that some moving companies will scam you and get your furniture and keep your furniture until you pay extra money. On August 1 I received an email from Mr. Hattfield from East Movers saying that he sent a crew from Florida with a rented truck to my home and that for the truck and time of the crew it will cost thousands of dollars. The Forman of the crew explained to my wife on July 26 that he is a sub-contractor, and he does not work for East Movers, but was local to the Atlanta metro area. According to Mr. Hattfield from East Movers the Forman was lying and that the crew and the Forman are direct employees of East Movers and are based out of Florida.

According to the quote I received from East Movers and their website, East Movers is a flat rate mover and only charge according to the items on your list. My quote was shown to have 9700 pounds. I feel this company uses deceptive business practices and false advertisement and should be investigated.
