We had damage from storms on April 4. This roofer showed up and said he could do the work. We filed with our insurance on April 7. J.C. Smith, owner of Masters Roofing was at our home while the insurance adjuster was here.
The adjuster issued a check on the spot in order to get the job going. The check was issued to our mortgage company as well as my husband and myself. We had to mail the check to our mortgage company for their endorsement.in the mean time, Mr. Smith insisted that he could begin work immediately if he had the funds "up front". He was by our home many times insisting on this until we finally gave him 500.00. Then he returned, wanting 1266.00 more. We wrote him a check, and after that point we never heard from him again. The first insurance check was for 1766.00. When we didn't hear from him for several days, we placed a stop payment on the check. At that point, he returned to our home stating he had already cashed it. He had not.
After 5 weeks of dealing with Mr. Smith, we had more storms move in and our damaged roof began leaking. Upon insistance, Mr. Smith finally came to our home and placed a huge tarp over the area that was leaking. Then he never returned again. We finally fired him based on his lies and hired a new roofer.in the mean time, Mr. Smith still owes us 500.00.
