I hired Tom to do repairs in my condo. He called me and said the work was all complete, and then made up some story that he had to be paid immediately for a check. I trusted him although I hadn't been to the condo to check up, so I paid him.
He made up these crazy stories about his brother being murdered and his truck being stolen, to try to make me feel bad but it turned out everything was a lie. He disappeared, and of course never did the work that I paid him for.
His girlfriend claimed he was in jail. I tried to collect through the court but he evaded being found somehow.
