Carpet palace of glen burnie tried to scam me out of over $1,000!

I believe that because i am only 22 years old, Mike, theowner, of Carpet Palace in Glen Burnie MD on Ritchie Hwy. Tried to rip me off. I had placed an order for "snap together wood flooring". The price was over $1,000.00.

When they came to put in the flooring they told me they wouldn't do it because my kitchen floor had too much water underneath it. So i said ok can i return the wood and cancle the account i had opened. First he tried to sell me carpet to put over it, or have me put the floor down myself even thought he already told me i had water damage under the floor. I said no just take back the wood and cancle my account. He then told me i had to pay a re-stock fee. I asked how much. He told me $200.00. I said i shouldn't have to pay the re-stock fee. Then he said quote "I need to get paid, if i have to I'll take you to court".

I then call Better Business Bureau to find out about arbitration, which turned out to cost more than $200.00. So I called Mike and made arrangements to pay the $200.00. When i got to the store, Mike wasn't there. The man that was there said he had to call Mike at the other store.

Then i asked for a reciept that i returned the wood. The man told me that Mike said to charge me $250.00. I told him Mike told me $200.00. Then he said that quote " I don't know how Mike came up with that ammount because it would cost us at least double that price to restock the wood." I then told him i would not pay $250.00 and he would hear from my Lawyer.

Later that week, Mike called and said he would accept the "$200.00" for the re-stock fee. I told him my lawyer was looking over it and then i would get back with him. Luckily my lawyer was a friend that didn't charge me anything, and when she talked to Mike and told him that under MD law his and my contract was not completed and hence void. And if he wanted to go to court then we would get him to put my floor in for free. Mike then said to return the floor at no charge.

I believe that because I am a young female, that he thought he could get away with charging me money that i didn't owe him. I was lucky that i had a friend that could help me or else i would have been out $200.00 dollars. My family has spent alot of money in carpet and flooring from Carpet Palace, but Mike tried to take advantage and rip me off so he just lost a lot of potential $!!!

Avoid buying carpet and flooring from carpet palace of glen burnie, md!!!
