I have a Rolex watch that is 3 years old. My father gave me the watch as a Christmas gift (he has also given Rolex watches to both of my sisters and his wife). During the three years I have had the watch I have taken verry good care of it. I know it sounds strange but I do not swim or shower with the watch on (even though it is a diving watch!). I have even kept the green sticker on the back.in the three years of ownership I have worn the watch about 60 days (20 per year - or a couple days a month). While vacumming my house last week my wife noticed the bezel had fallen off the watch and was on the floor. My daughter and son were there and we all agree that the watch was not bumped or with anything. The bezel just fell off! I was expectinng much more when I purchased this supposed quality time piece.
I sent the watch to Rolex HQ in New York with a detailed letter. They called me 10 days later and said the watch needed to be repaired. THEY WANTED $704.69 to clean the watch, polish the bracelet, gas it up, and replace the bezel. When I re-told the circumstances about how rarely I wore the watch, how I never exposed it to water (diving watch!) and how it was not hit r bumped the customer service Supervisor said "Oh - what do you want us to do?" I asked her to stand behind the quality product ($5,000 purchase price). She said she would send the watch back by mail but that was it! Oh ya, she said it is snowing so the watch would not leave their facilty for 48 hours (call was 2/9 at 3:55ET).
If you are considering purchasing a Rolex I would think about another product. When something goes wrong with your supposed quality time piece you will not be happy with how they stand behind ther product. Too bad, I expected more.
Next Christmas my family will not be purchasing Rolex - or ever again!!!
