The exact same problem with Maytag and Fedders Dehumidifier as Gordon of Rockford, Minnesota, report #331927

I had the exact same conversation and problem and with Maytag (and Fedders) Dehumidifier (price $245) as Gordon, Rockford, Minnesota, report #331927. After, only two years of use, approximately (3) months each year, the plastic motor motor wheel broke apart. Maytag said that particular series was subcontracted—by them—to Fedders so it is not their responsibility.

Maytag management is responsible. The name "Maytag" is on the unit, the User Guide, and the notice of "free 5 year carry-in service". I believe that common law still holds, if "your name" is on a product or service, then the public thinks that's the manufacturer or provider, regardless of any legal arrangement. Furthermore, it is a management principle that "responsibility" cannot delegated, but, then, Maytag's management does not think we know that.

By the way, the nearest "free service" is approximately 40 miles southeast of Cleveland, in a semi rural area. The one repairman was difficult to contact. My unit leaked after the first year. So that spring, when I needed the unit, I had to wait (8) weeks to get it back. The only other repair service was on the far west side of Cleveland, with a (3) month backlog, and no estimate when the the repair could be made.

Maytag should advertise: "free service, if you pay ".
