2. After the ac Installation was finished, on my new construction single family residence I made final payment to Trevor Air. I moved into the house in 12. I did not run the AC unit until the summer of 2006. The system did not seem to cool the house properly. At that time I spoke with Trevor and he stated the house had open ceilings and that was the best any AC system would ever be able to cool. I know nothing about AC and accepted his answer as true. Every time I used the system I ran into the same problem, the system could not cool the house properly. This problem continued over the next 2 years. The AC unit would eventually shut completely down and would take a day or so after being shut off to start working again.
3. After 2 years of continual problems with the units, I called a Aladdin Air Conditioning and Heating to come out and determine exactly what was causing the problems. They came out and did a complete inspection and found that the system units were installed backwards. Smaller system to cool the larger portion of the house and smaller system to cool the larger portion on the house (see Invoice # 112512 from Aladdin) Aladdin gave me an estimate of $5970.00 to repair the problem. (See estimate to repair)
4. After I found out how extensive the repair was, I contacted Trevor Air and asked that he come out and look at the issue. He told me that Aladdin was just trying to make money off of me and that the units were not installed backwards. He came out and looked at the units. He called me and told me all I needed was new filters and that he would replace them for me. He told me he took the filters out and would replace them in the next few days. I was very suspicious that dirty filters had caused the issue. I had the replaced the filters 12 months earlier. Even if the filters did need changing, they were only 1 year old. There was no way the system was not working because the filters had not been changed in 12 months.
5. I decided to get another neutral opinion. I had Avis Air Conditioning and Heating come out (see attached proposal and estimate). They found exactly the same thing Aladdin found. The system. Was installed backwards
6. I contacted Trevor Air and let him know that I had been given another estimate for repair and that they also found the units to be installed backwards. Trevor became very aggressive on the phone and told me his warranty was 1 year and that he would not put in the correct size units and that I would have to sue him.
7. I then had one last AC contractor Rassac look at the situation. (see Ressac estimate # 2231).
8. I felt Rassac was the most competent contractor to make the repair. I hired Rassac to make the repairs. I paid $ 6432.00 for the job on Aug 26th. Rassac gave me a complete report of what was done and what was found. He also gave me pictures of all issues prior to the repair. (see attached report. Pictures were included on original claim submission)
9. Upon reading the final report from Rassac (see attached final report). I found the following points, which clearly show incompetent work as well as fraud.
1. My invoice shows I had a 4 ton system to be installed upstairs. Not only was that size system too big for the location, I got mismatched equipment. I had a 3 ton furnace installed though I was told I would have a 4 ton. Because the system was made up of a 4 ton and 3 ton equipment the system could not work correctly and ultimaly failed and had to be replaced.
2. The return air connection was installed incorrectly as it was tapped directly to the back of the furnace not allowing for any airflow. The return air was also sized too small for a 4 ton system
3. The downstairs unit was also failing because the return air was too small of a duct and again return air was attached directly to the back of the furnace just as the upstairs was, not allowing proper airflow.
10. The overall findings from 3 independent licensed AC contractors was that the systems were installed backwards. The ducting was sized improperly in both upstairs and downstairs locations. The bigger heat load was downstairs and the system should have been installed with a four ton system for the downstairs and a 3 ton system for the upstairs. Based on my original proposal from Trevor Air he had it designed backwards from the very beginning. Showing the smaller unit downstairs and the larger unit upstairs.
11. The system was not damaged and tampered by other contractors as Trevor claims. What proof does he have? The claim I have submitted is not over an issue of tampering The claim is over Trevor Air mismatching equipment and designing and installing a AC system backwards with inadequate equipment and ducting. Trevors points of dirty filters and tampering are irrelevant and do not explain why the units were mismatched, installed backwards and why the ducting was inadequate in all locations.
12. The details of the incorrect installation were not discovered until Aug after having a complete review of the initial work done by Trevor Air by other AC contractors. As far as an extended warranty on the unit itself, this would not have qualified as the unit failed because of the way it was installed not because of a malfunction within the unit itself.
13. I was never provided any type of warranty information from Trevor Air. Warranty is not stated on his invoice. I could not have discovered the incorrect installation by calling Trevor Air. Even after Trevor Air has been given overwhelming evidence of his error he still claimed it was dirty filters. There was no chance Trevor Air was going to acknowledge his mistake and re install correctly. I am left with no other recourse. I must look for reimbursement through his bond.
I am looking for reimbursement of $6432.00 that I had to pay out to repair the original installation done by Trevor Air (see attached invoice and payment proof). His work shows complete negligence and incompetence as 3 other licensed AC contractors have clearly documented.
