We purchased a Southern Home in December. We have had nothing but problems since then.
First it snowed in my backdoor, it rained in the microwave, the shingles kept blowing off, the fireplace had no mortar, the ceilings cracked a 2 inch crack, and those are the good things about this home!
Since the company "fixed" the problems, we have had to put on a roof, repair or replace parts of the ceiling, repair walls, it rains in the vents and the skylight in the main bathroom, and now we have had to replace the whole floor and walls in the utility room because the air conditioner "seeped" (a word our insurance company used, since our policy doesn't cover seepage) down the back of the pan and into the wall the in under the tile.
We have had problems getting the company to fix any issues, of course they say they do, but all they have done is coverage. If it looks good then it's good.
There are electrical outlets that don't work, there is not enough insulation so it is hard to heat and cool, the carpet is horrendous and I paid for the "good" stuff!
The faucets, which are supposed to be the best Delta faucets, leak aren't on straight and can't be straitend. The walls are movable by leaning on them, The floors actually give when you walk on them, and they refuse to listen.
The company will tell you they will fix the issues you have within 45 days of delivery... Wrong! They make it appear to be fixed then it simply happens again. I poured a $6000.00 slab of concrete so our home wouldn't settle... Yea right... My front door still won't open, of course if I wait a while then it won't close so I guess it evens out.
I absolutely want anyone who is considerring buying a manufactured home to run to the hills! Even a shack would be better than this!
I have already had to replace the refrigerator, after I had it worked on twice, I gave up. The stove and dishwasher must have been bought at a yardsale. No because they would have worked!
The people at Southern Homes are rude, beligerant, and downright liars! They don't hesitate to take your money in the dead of winter after your home has burned down and you have no where to live, but they do not give you value for your money.
All I have asked and would ever ask is that they stand behind thier product and make it right when there are problems. I feel that the company cheated me and my husband out of $65000.00 and never batted an eye. I would have been better off to have given my money to Bernie Madolf at least he might have enjoyed it! Hedge schemes have nothing on the manufactured home industry.
They put 30 inch doors in the bedrooms, my god most men are wider than that at the shoulders, so my guys all have to turn sideways to get into a room. There are 4 drawers in the kitchen, and don't get me started about those "oak" cabinets. They aren't even the right width if I wanted to replace the counter tops. I would have to rip it all out and start again, what did I pay for?
What happened to buying American made, I'll tell you, because this is what you get into, I think I'll shop in Japan from now on, maybe I'll get my moneys worth!
