In July I bought a brand-new 19 horsepower riding mower. The store told me that if I ever fell behind on payments, they would keep my merchandise for a while provided I stayed in contact. Sadly, in November I had to hand it in, and expected it back the first week of February, and I kept telling the manager that I would be coming back for it.
When I returned to lease the mower again under a 2 year contract, they did not hand me my own machine. What I received was, and remains, a heap of junk: the engine does not run at full power, and the steering wheel was broken. By July the engine gave out entirely. Aaron's did not return my mower until nearly the start of June, so they kept it close to 11 months and never explained the delay. Only after the district manager got involved did I get it back.
It came back in worse shape than when it was taken. The transmission slipped, and a mechanic had apparently started it with something like a screwdriver rather than a key, scraping every starting decal off the ignition. It ran fine the first time we mowed, but then it began acting up just like the mower I was first given, and on our second attempt at mowing it quit completely.
Aaron's collected it again and returned it six weeks later. The transmission remains unfixed, and I can tell the engine will fail again before long. The district manager said the ignition switch was merely cosmetic and that they would not repair it. She does not grasp the transmission problem, because she saw the store manager drive the mower around and said it handled fine.
What bothers me most is that I paid more than $4,300 and ended up with a broken, useless mower. Aaron's promised I would be given back the very mower I had turned in, which my wife and I kept in excellent condition, and they did not keep that promise. I believe they owe me a better mower as a replacement. Each time I call the store about it, the account manager badgers me and is very rude; I cannot finish explaining the problem before she starts making excuses and refuses to listen. Aaron's has totally let me down on customer service.
