I have a Whirlpool water heater with a lifetime warranty, or so I thought. Model number EE3Z50RD055V. There's a large sticker on the tank that says inner tank and parts are covered by a lifetime warranty. Conveniently, there is also a toll-free number to call for help. Upon calling this number, I was informed that the so-called lifetime warranty is valid only for the original owner of the home.
The first tier representative obviously couldn't do anything to help, so I began asking for his superviser. After about twenty minutes of diversion, deflecting, and just plain lying to me, he hung up on me. I have no idea what this person's name was, he is located in India, much like most of the toll-free customer support of American businesses. He told me he was the only person there taking calls when I could clearly hear others talking in the background. At one point, he even started demanding something of someone else there in the call center with him.
