In September, I had a technician come out to check my A/C unit that was not working. I knew the compressor was gone since I worked in that industry for 7 years. The technician said the compressor was gone and the unit needed replacement. However, he said it won't be covered by you policy since it was either a power surge or lightning that caused it.
At that point I inquired how he could tell since there were no burnt terminals or arcing that was visible. He just said he could. I complained to them and the rep told me to read my policy. I submitted and engineering report that was prepared for technicians that stated that neither of these causes could be determined without cutting open the compressor and viewing the windings to see if there had been arcing. This was never done and I paid for the new unit plus the service call.
I am a Real Estate Broker and there are some good home warranty companies out there but this is not one of them. They will find a way to beat you out of paying for a service. Do yourself a favor and read all the exclusions and then go find a good company.
