Shopped at American Freight, picked out a sectional that my wife and I wanted. I was told that the sectional I was looking at on the floor of the showroom/warehouse was the one I was buying. I bought the fabric guard (or whatever it was called) and was told that it would take a week to have it applied. I put $200 cash down on the purchase and was told that I would receive a call in a week when the fabric protection was done.
A week went by, and I called. I was told that my sectional was "not in yet". I replied that I was told when I placed the deposit that the sectional I was buying was the one I was looking at on the floor, and I would have to wait a week for the fabric protection to be applied. The person I spoke with then informed me that they NEVER sold anything off the floor and the salesperson I spoke to would not have told me that, and that I was mistaken. The lady then said that my furniture should arrive in about a week.
Another week went by, and I called. It was not in yet. The next week, I went to the store, and was told it was not in yet. I then asked for my deposit back. I was told that my deposit was truly a lay-away, and that their policy is not to give refunds for lay-away, and since I hadn't made a "timely" payment, my layaway was cancelled. I again asked for my money back, and was told again that they did not give refunds, but I could pay the balance and they would "order" my furniture in.
Obviously, they had no intention of giving me my furniture, just taking my money.
$200 lessons learned:
1. American Freight is a rip-off
2. Crooks run American Freight
I'd never been lied to and ripped off by a company like this before. I was truly shocked when I was told that I couldn't get my money back - but if I pay the remaining balance they would "order" my furniture???
No furniture, and $200 less cash.
