Okay, so what aaron *did do, he did well and exactingly. And i've seen pictures of his tile work, and it's beautiful. But this is about what aaron doesn't do.
He doesn't show up when he says he will, and i don't think he ever worked an eight hour day when he did show up, which was rarely.
He said he and his guys could do all aspects of the job. Not so. At the end, there were no "guys." just him. And he still didn't hustle.
He was given a firm deadline, to coincide with the carpet install, which coincided with the beginning of a dredging project that will last six weeks, after which i was to move in. He claims to never have been told about the dredging project, though i have witnesses that heard it. He just wasn't listening.
He lies incessantly and makes excuses for everything.
When he wants something, he signs his e. Mails with "xoxoxox." when he doesn't want to work, he will ignore eight voicemails before he texts back an answer... When he feels like it.
He asked for the second third of his bid - which i stupidly paid - to cover his payroll. And when i fired him, ultimately, the final analysis is that he's been paid 2/3 of the total price for a job in which the contracted-for services are barely begun. Not a tile has been laid. The only thing complete is the plywood and hardiplank. This was done well. And this took a month.
He was unorganized - how many material runs does an experienced contractor have to make in a day? Multiples, apparently.
I asked for missing receipts for advanced materials money. He said "you must have lost them." not. So in addition to the 2/3 advance payment, i am short a couple of hundred bucks in materials. He even bought a hammer on my dime - i mean, really.
He text'd me mid-afternoon on a wednesday to say he had taken the day off to "put together a work crew."
I asked him to call me if he wasn't going to be there. He never did that. I would only find out when i appeared at the job site and no one was there.
He took the only key to the property with him on a tuesday and when i arrived with fixtures on wednesday he said he'd taken it to make a duplicate. Totally unacceptable. Never asked me. A neighbor and a ladder allowed me access, whereupon i saw that almost nothing had been done the previous day.
He's a charming, likeable guy who just doesn't have what it takes. I'm an easy person to work for, but i would not recommend him for anything. He was angry and threatening enough that i brought reinforcements when he came down to get his tools. Steer clear.
