Tonight, I was searching Craigslist for homes to rent. I came across a 3 bdrm/2bath home for rent that was facing foreclosure. The ad stated to call an 800 number. I called with a voice prompt stating I was the 17th caller and I held until I was next in queue. A lady named "Ashley" answered the phone giving me a direct line for her.
She told me about the home, which was facing foreclosure and the couple had chosen to have someone take over the morgatge. She stated there is no credit check, no downpayment, nothing. She said that once I gave the money, I would get the listing, the address; along with the couples name and home phone number. I inquired about the home and wanted to know what I was looking at before I actually paid money but she said they cannot. I gave her a CLOSED/INACTIVE (never activated; cancelled) credit card number to see what they would say.
Ashely stated she would call me back in 10 minutes after she attempted to process my card. She called back in 20 and said that it was bad (which I knew). She said she would speak with her "bosses, boss" to see if they could work with me. (My debit card had to be cancelled because of fradulent activity last week and I haven't gotten the new card).
I began believing this was a scam and even asked her about it. She stated "no, no... This is not a scam! It's really true".
I called "Ashley" back on her direct line to inquire about square footage and she answered with a "hello?". I said "Ashley, this is Anna". She IMMEDIATELY turned on her "business voice" and began answering questions. I am scheduled to call her back tomorrow... Just wait until I do!
After researching this "too good to be true" company and deal posting on Yahoo! Answers, I learned this was a scam.
Please, do not fall for this company. They will rip you off!
